Loaction of the turmors and cell characteristics are among the differientiating factors in mesothelioma.
November 5th, 2008. Polyneuropathy in a patient with malignant pleural mesothelioma: a paraneoplastic syndrome
The patient was treated with immunoglobulin and prednisolone, and this resulted in subjective, objective, and paraclinical improvement of the symptoms. We therefore suggest that polyneuropathy is a possible paraneoplastic syndrome in MPM.
November 1st, 2008. Genomic events associated with progression of pleural malignant mesothelioma
Imbalances seen by ROMA were confirmed by Affymetrix genome analysis in a subset of samples. © 2008 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
October 31st, 2008. Diffuse malignant pleural mesothelioma: A multi-institutional clinicopathological study
Conclusions: The definitive diagnosis of early MPM is difficult, but establishing the best diagnostic modality would improve survival rates, since radical surgery is likely to be effective for resectable disease.
October 23rd, 2008. Malignant abdominal mesothelioma: defining the role of surgery
Conclusion: Surgical extirpation of MAM may be associated with significantly improved survival. All patients with MAM should be evaluated for potential surgical resection.
October 22nd, 2008. A case of non-tuberculous mycobacteriosis with pleurisy with a past history of dense exposure to environmental asbestos
A final diagnosis of NTM was confirmed via open biopsy of the lung. Our case suggests that in addition to tuberculosis, NTM should be taken into consideration as a complication of silicosis.
October 18th, 2008. Carboplatin and pemetrexed in the management of malignant pleural mesothelioma: A realistic treatment option?
Conclusion: The combination of carboplatin and pemetrexed may be a viable option in the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma.

October 18th, 2008. Expression and Regulation of Epithelial Na+ Channels by Nucleotides in Pleural Mesothelial Cells
Furthermore, we found that both forskolin and cGMP increased the short-circuit currents in mouse pleural tissues. Taken together, our data demonstrate that the ENaC channels are biochemically and functionally expressed in human pleural mesothelial cells, and can be up-regulated by cAMP and cGMP.
October 16th, 2008. Histologic assessment and prognostic factors of malignant pleural mesothelioma treated with extrapleural pneumonectomy
Postoperative treatment was associated with DSS and with recurrence-free survival. Our study confirms that in many cases, final histopathologic typing of MPM is influenced by complete surgical resection and that initial biopsy should be carefully weighed in the treatment stratification.
October 9th, 2008. Peritoneal Mesothelioma
To date there have been no universally accepted treatments for MPM. Unless referred to a specialty center, patients are routinely treated with pemetrexed and cisplatin which has been shown to increase survival in pleural mesothelioma.

October 8th, 2008. Acute abdomen in an asbestos factory worker
We treated a man who had a primary peritoneal mesothelioma with an unusual presentation — an acute abdomen. We report this case and discuss the relevant literature.
October 8th, 2008. Pooled analysis of NAT2 genotypes as risk factors for asbestos-related malignant mesothelioma
04). These results suggest that NAT2 polymorphisms do not exert a strong effect on individual susceptibility to MM.
October 3rd, 2008. Transesophageal Endoscopic Ultrasound with Fine Needle Aspiration in the Preoperative Staging of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma
Conclusions: EUS-FNA is feasible and sensitive for MLN staging in patients with MPM who are candidate for multimodality treatment. These data warrant further evaluation.
September 30th, 2008. Acrylamide Carcinogenicity
The mode of action remains unclear for acrylamide-induced rodent carcinogenicity, but support for a genotoxic mechanism based on in vitro and in vivo DNA reactivity assays cannot be ruled out. In addition, the pattern of tumor formation in the rat following chronic exposure supports a genotoxic mode of action but also suggests a potential role of endocrine modification.
September 30th, 2008. Mesothelial reaction in longstanding Crohn’s ileitis simulating papillary mesothelioma
The peritoneal surface of the ileal resection specimen displayed exuberant tubulo-papillary formations of the mesothelium, with superficial invasion of the underlying stroma. The case demonstrates the well-recognised difficult differential diagnosis between a benign mesothelial proliferation and malignant mesothelioma in a novel clinical setting, and the diversity of the extramural manifestations of Crohn's disease.
September 27th, 2008. Treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma in pediatric patients
Treatment was well tolerated, and three of these patients have achieved long-term survival. The fathers of three of the patients worked in the construction industry and may have been the source of indirect asbestos exposure.

September 23rd, 2008. Pleural fluid findings as prognostic factors for malignant pleural mesothelioma
However, none of these variables emerged as statistically significant from the multivariate Cox model. In conclusion, our results showed that there is an inverse correlation between the intensity of inflammation and survival.
September 23rd, 2008. The impact of lymph node station on survival in 348 patients with surgically resected malignant pleural mesothelioma: implications for revision of the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system
Conclusion: This study confirms a preferential pattern of drainage of malignant pleural mesothelioma to N2 rather than N1 lymph nodes, but suggests that N1 only nodal involvement should be classified as lower stage disease. Multiple N2 nodal site involvement could potentially be classified as higher stage disease than single station N2. Our results emphasize the need for larger, confirmatory multicenter studies that could lead to revision of the current staging system.

September 18th, 2008. Multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma is an uncommon lesion that is most often discovered incidentally
Abstract Symptoms are unusual. The lesion is benign with a favourable prognosis but local recurrence is reported not to be rare, and in a few cases malignant transformation has been described.
September 17th, 2008. Peritoneal Mesotheliomas: Clinicopathologic Features, CT Findings, and Differential Diagnosis
Conclusion: The clinicopathologic features of peritoneal mesotheliomas vary among the subtypes such as malignant mesotheliomas, cystic mesotheliomas, and well-differentiated papillary mesotheliomas, and accordingly, there is a spectrum of CT appearances.
