October 3rd, 2007. Mesothelioma of the pleura in the Province of Trieste
Conclusions: In the Province of Trieste the mesothelioma epidemic does not show any signs of abatement. Besides marine work, a variety of other occupations appear to be associated with the tumour in this area.

September 4th, 2007. Clinical utility of thoracoscopy under local anesthesia
In case of the pneumothorax, treatment with bulla looping or cauterization may be possible, but we do not treat pneumothorax with medical thoracoscopy because it is impossible to approach and find air leaks of lesions located in or near blind spots such as the apex or mediastinal part In case of acute emphysema, it is important to release adhesions and perform effective drainage using thoracoscopy as soon as possible since deposition of fibrin tends to form quickly compartments that make drainage difficult. Since medical thoracoscopy under local anesthesia is rapid, easy, safe, and well-tolerated procedure with an excellent diagnostic yield, it is recommended as a diagnostic procedure for cases with pleural diseases.
July 31st, 2007. Case of asbestosis with massive benign pleural involvement
Pleural asbestosis. The authors stress importance of contemporary diagnostic techniques in occupational pathology.
July 24th, 2007. Pseudomesotheliomatous carcinoma of the lung
Immunohistochemically, the tumor was positive for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), but negative for calretinin, thrombomodulin, and pulmonary surfactant apoprotein. Final diagnosis was adenocarcinoma of the lung.
June 23rd, 2007. Management of malignant pleural effusion
PET imaging could be of major interest in the diagnosis of mesothelioma and prognosis evaluation. Mesothelioma prognosis has recently been modified by the association of cisplatin with pemetrexed, a new antimetabolite agent, but mesothelioma remains seldom curable.

March 29th, 2007. Can serum inflammatory parameters estimate outcome of pleurodesis in mesothelioma?
Conclusion: Serum levels of inflammatory parameters (C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate) may be used to predict the success of pleurodesis in patients with malign mesothelioma who underwent thoracoscopic talc poudrage.
March 29th, 2007. Medical thoracoscopy in an Australian regional hospital
There was one fatality caused by pre-existing sepsis in a debilitated patient with disseminated carcinoma. Medical thoracoscopy is a simple, safe and cost-effective technique for diagnosing and treating pleural effusions and provides a useful service in the setting of a regional hospital.
March 14th, 2007. Inmunohistochemistry and surgical approaches in solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura
In our opinion, VTC is a less invasive diagnostic and therapeutic approach than thoracotomy that provides an adequate approach for the resection of SFTP in selected patients. Because of the malignant potential of this tumor, long-term follow-up is mandatory.
January 26th, 2007. Preoperative assessment and surgical indication for malignant pleural mesothelioma
Among 5 consective patients who received the preoperative surgical staging during past 10 months, 1 patient was judged not to be a surgical candidate due to the presence of contralateral pleural metastasis. In conclusion, this surgical staging is a useful preoperative evaluation to prevent an unnecessary operation.
January 26th, 2007. Malignant pleural mesothelioma
4% and the median survival time in patients with epithelial mesothelioma was 30. 6 months.

November 8th, 2006. The Portsmouth thoracoscopy experience, an evaluation of service by retrospective case note analysis
There was no mortality or significant morbidity associated with the procedure. Medical thoracoscopy is safe and effective in the diagnosis of benign and malignant pleural disease particularly in this high risk population.
