January 18th, 2008. Primary malignant mesothelioma of the abdominal wall: complete response with radiotherapy alone
She had a complete response with no evidence of local progression when two years after treatment imaging revealed lung metastases, confirmed on biopsy. The present case suggests that radiotherapy alone can provide sustained local control of mesothelioma.
January 9th, 2008. Early cytological diagnosis of diffuse malignant mesothelioma of the peritoneum: A case report
Routine cytology supported by three adjuvant methods enabled us to correctly establish the diagnosis. Our case suggests that a cytological diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma supported by adjuvant methods should not be rejected even if based on negative histological results.
December 7th, 2007. Renal cell carcinoma with malignant pleural mesothelioma after asbestos exposure: a case report
The incidence is rising in industrialized countries, with the peak expected in the year 2020. However, renal cell carcinoma with malignant pleural mesothelioma is very rare and this is the 2nd case in the Japanese literature.

December 6th, 2007. Pseudomesotheliomatous adenocarcinoma of the lung with synchronous gastric and esophageal cancer
An immunohistochemical investigation is important when it is difficult to determine whether diffuse carcinomatous involvement of the pleura is secondary to metastasis, lung cancer, or mesothelioma. We herein report a very rare case of concomitant pseudomesotheliomatous adenocarcinoma, gastric cancer and esophageal cancer.
November 28th, 2007. Solitary fibrous tumor of the anterior mediastinum: a rare extrapleural neoplasm
Despite their rarity in the mediastinum, solitary fibrous tumors can be recognized by their classic patternless morphology and immunophenotypic pattern. Their accurate classification is important, as solitary fibrous tumors are intermediate (rarely metastasizing) neoplasms that require complete surgical excision and long-term clinical follow-up for optimum therapy.
November 27th, 2007. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the pleura mimicking a malignant solitary fibrous tumor and associated with dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the mediastinum: Usefulness of cytogenetic and molecular genetic analyses
Cytogenetic analysis showed supernumerary ring chromosomes in the pleural tumor, as well as strong amplification of MDM2 and CDK4 genes in both tumors. Array comparative genomic hybridization showed amplifications of chromosome arms 6q, 12q, and 15q, shared by both tumors and strongly pointing to a common origin.
November 24th, 2007. Peritoneal malignant mesothelioma: case report
Different pathogenic mechanisms for the pathogenesis of a peritoneal diffuse malignant mesothelioma in this patient can be hypothesized, for example, SV40 infection and genetic susceptibility; a minimal domestic exposure to asbestos can be not excluded. Therefore, further studies in a more large number of subjects are necessary to determine whether one or all of these hypothetic pathogenic mechanisms are more significant for the develop of malignant mesothelioma.
November 21st, 2007. Three cases of unusual non-germ cell tumors of the testicle
Abstract By describing 3 clinical cases of unusual testicular non germinal tumors, including an adenoma of the rete testis, an undifferenciated sex cord tumor and a mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis, we make a literature review of the unusual testicular tumors and testicular apendix, including their incidence and management. Also and as one of our conclusions, we expose the importance of the intraoperatory biopsy in the testicular cancer surgery, because even if it is infrecuent, the presence of this rare testicular tumors, in which if they are proven to be benign, the testicular unit could be preserved and the radical orquiectomy could be avoided.
November 17th, 2007. Mesothelioma: You do not have to work for it
Asbestos exposure induced mesothelioma does not require an occupational type of exposure. Bystander exposures may result in earlier age of disease onset and more aggressive disease progression as described in the following 3 case reports.
November 1st, 2007. Peritoneal mesothelioma presenting as an acute surgical abdomen due to jejunal perforation
Conclusions: Peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare malignancy with grim prognosis. Small bowel involvement is a poor prognostic indicator. Our case of a small bowel perforation due to direct infiltration by peritoneal mesothelioma appears to be the first reported in the English literature.

October 24th, 2007. Localized malignant pleural mesothelioma treated by a curative intent lobectomy: a case report
His postoperative course was uneventful, and he has been doing well for almost 1 year. A resection of the tumor has shown to increase survival in previous reports, though the role of oncologically justifiable resection, such as a lobectomy, and the biological behavior of such tumors are still difficult to predict.

October 16th, 2007. Primary pericardial mesothelioma
The patient died 16 months after diagnosis. New cytotoxic drugs can improve the prognosis of this rare entity.
October 5th, 2007. Malignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis: a case report and review of the literature
Despite aggressive surgical and systemic therapy the prognosis remains poor with only rare long-term survivors. We report a case of malignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis in 45-years-old and review of the literature is presented.
October 5th, 2007. Primary pleural thymoma with coexistent incidental small hepatocellular carcinoma – An autopsy case report with brief review of literature
This case is reported because of the rarity of pleural thymoma and the coincidental finding of a small hepatocellular carcinoma in a non-cirrhotic background. The literature on these two tumors has been reviewed.
October 3rd, 2007. Benign Peritoneal Multicystic Mesothelioma Diagnosed and Treated by Laparoscopic Surgery
In this paper, we present the case of a young woman with benign multicystic mesothelioma in which only laparoscopy led to the appropriate diagnosis. Subsequently, the tumor was removed by laparoscopic surgery.
October 3rd, 2007. Apparent spontaneous complete regression of a multifocal malignant mesothelioma of the pleura
This case demonstrates that this tumour may, very rarely, regress spontaneously, with no recurrence for many years. A greater knowledge of the underlying immune mechanisms would aid future management of this and other tumours.
October 3rd, 2007. Malignant mediastinal tumor with bone formation–mesothelioma or sarcoma?
However, the tumor grew rapidly and spread to the pleura, involved the heart, and the patient succumbed. This is to our knowledge the first report of a sarcomatous mesothelioma with bone formation from environmental exposure to mineral fibers.

September 1st, 2007. Report of a Case of Pericardial Mesothelioma with Liver Metastases Responding Well to Pemetrexed and Platinum-Based Chemotherapy
com Abstract Pericardial mesothelioma remains a disease with a bleak prognosis. We report the case of a patient with metastases to liver and good response to pemetrexed and carboplatin-based combination chemotherapy and consequent prolonged progression-free survival.

August 28th, 2007. Family mesotheliomas: genetic interaction with environmental carcinogenic exposure?
Many studies suggest an interaction between genetic and environment. A genetic predisposition could lead to an increased susceptibility to carcinogenic factors.
