Finally, the paper also report recent data sourced from the study of malignant pleural mesothelioma transcriptome using high-throughput technologies such as gene expression array. These data should improve the accuracy of mesothelioma diagnosis and therapy.

Conclusions: In this patient group, presenting with stable symptoms after control of pleural effusion, the early use of chemotherapy provided an extended period of symptom control, and in this small trial a trend to survival advantage.

The activity of IL-2 in monotherapy or in association with immunotherapy is clinically relevant in hepatocarcinoma, mesothelioma and in malignant overflows as palliative treatment. Randomized trials would be required in order to be able to draw conclusions about its indication in other tumors.
